RE Areas: I believe Hull was incredibly useful to Telco's because it had a separat
e telco to rest of the UK... I don't know details/lessons - but there MAY be value in an area behind ahead for some ideas

MikeButcher:

edgather - I like the badge idea but who would be in charge of allocating the badge? Do you think City Hall is in a position to designate who gets the badge or not or is that better served as a private sector thing? BTW we are working on a way to help London startups to export 'smart city' solutions globally.

MikeButcher:

OK EVERYONE WE HAVE 10 MINS LEFT. What esle do you want to cover?

edgather:

Well Badge need not be an award, rather a recognition that the startup uses some London data, or follows simple City Hall requirements around privacy, inclusion, and is London based.

tomball2:

Idea: Email Oyster users "Do you want to join an early adopters mailing list? One email per week" then a Digg style site to choose different ideas...

edgather:

Citizen Science. Any plans?

UNBOXLONDON:

Mobile tech ( and not just phones ) is where its at… I wanna hear more in this area!

tomball2:

Idea2: Competition site for ideas to reduce congestion. Winners get combination of PR / grant / equity. Use same budget pot as CrossRail
etc... ;o)

MikeButcher:

edgather - OK, we will have a think about this idea - we really like it, thanks!

MikeButcher:

edgather: Citizen Science. - sorry what are you referring to?

edgather:

its ok I will write to you email re: citizen science.

UNBOXLONDON:

@edgather Not going into any self promotion, but I completely agree and have been developing / testing a community centric / geo location mobile app during the last 12 months using this principal ( geo fencing off areas in London and authenticating content based on location has significant impact on user engagement with the tech ) Lower user numbers but higher quality engagement and genuine people to people connectivity

MikeButcher:

tomball2 - There are plans to do events like hackathons for tech companies to engage with London data around travel, etc etc

MikeButcher:

>>>>> OK EVERYONE THANKS so much for participating here. All of this chat will remain here on this site but will not be live in a few minutes. But you will be able to leave comments underneath via a comment box. THANKS ALL FOR JOINING US! :-) As I said, there will be a report this week and if you want more then email smart@london.gov.uk or follow @smarterlondon on Twitter which will be live on Wednesday this week. Bye for now! Mike Butcher.

tomball2:

Thanks Mike - very glad to see City Hall trying to engage start-ups as part of solving these billion pound problems/opportunities ;o) In general, there is often too much emphasis on new ideas - and not enough incubating / supporting existing ones... hackathons are great but meet only one need. A "walk more" app may be commercially unsustainable but be worth millions to London in savings. Thanks again for cheerleading here

MikeButcher:

Cheers all!

UNBOXLONDON:

here here :)

tomball2:

@smarterlondon = an egg?!

tomball2:

(Sorry: "Live on Wednesday"!) - Thanks Mike

ramimorante:

Bye Mike. Thanks
